Profile Picture Formats

Output format, dimensions, and shape options for profile pictures created in HeadshotPro.

Profile Picture Formats

Every profile picture exported from HeadshotPro is a square PNG at 1024x1024 pixels. This single format works across all major professional platforms and social networks without any additional resizing on your end.

How it works

  1. Finish styling your headshot in the Profile Picture editor.
  2. Export — HeadshotPro saves a 1024 × 1024 PNG to your device.
  3. Upload the PNG directly to LinkedIn, Slack, Teams, or any other platform. No resizing needed.

Output format

File formatPNG
Dimensions1024 × 1024 px
Color spacesRGB
BackgroundTransparent or solid (depending on settings)

The export dimensions are fixed. The in-editor canvas preview scales to fit your screen, but the download and saved file are always 1024x1024.

Shape options

The Photo tab in the editor controls the visible shape of your picture. The underlying PNG is always square; the shape is composited into the final image.

ShapeDescription
CircleFully rounded — the standard format for most professional and social platforms
Rounded SquareSquircle shape, common for app icons and modern directory cards
SquareNo rounding — the full square image with straight corners

Platform sizing guidance

HeadshotPro exports at 1024x1024 px. Most platforms accept this and scale it down on their end. The table below shows recommended dimensions per platform as of writing.

PlatformRecommended sizeNotes
LinkedIn400 × 400 px minimumAccepts up to 20,000 × 20,000 px; 1024x1024 works perfectly
Microsoft Teams648 × 648 pxDisplayed as circle; 1024x1024 exceeds minimum
Slack512 × 512 px minimumDisplayed as circle in most views; 1024x1024 works
Zoom400 × 400 px minimumDisplayed as circle; 1024x1024 works
GitHub500 × 500 px minimumSupports circle and square display depending on context
Twitter / X400 × 400 px minimumDisplayed as circle; 1024x1024 works

In practice, uploading the 1024x1024 PNG to any of these platforms works without manual resizing. Each platform performs its own crop and compression.

Background and transparency

If you export without removing the background, the PNG contains your original background (solid, gradient, pattern, or image — whichever you set).

If you used Remove Background in the editor, the exported PNG contains a transparent background. When you upload a transparent PNG to a platform that does not support transparency (LinkedIn, for example), the platform fills it with its own background color (usually white or grey).

To control the background color for platforms that strip transparency, set an explicit solid background color in the Background tab before exporting.

Good to know

  • The editor does not offer per-platform export presets. One 1024x1024 PNG covers all major use cases.
  • If a platform shows a blurry or pixelated version of your photo, the issue is on the platform side. HeadshotPro exports at full quality.
  • PNG compression is lossless. File sizes are typically 500 KB–2 MB depending on background complexity.
  • Images containing inappropriate content are rejected at upload time via automated content moderation before they are saved.
