Practical tips for taking great photos that produce the best AI headshots

Photo Guidelines

The AI does not change your hairstyle, makeup, or expression — it generates headshots based on your uploaded photos. Photos that clearly show your face in good conditions produce the best results. Poor inputs produce poor outputs; there is no way around it.

Take your photos the way you want to appear in your final headshots. If you want to look polished and professional, your selfies should reflect that.

How it works

  1. Look directly at the camera with a professional or neutral expression.
  2. Make sure your face fills the majority of the frame — not too far away, not so close that features are cut off.
  3. Upload solo photos only — one person per image.
  4. Shoot against a plain or uncluttered background where possible.
  5. Use sharp, in-focus images taken in daylight or a well-lit room.
  6. Add variety — different angles, outfits, and lighting conditions give the AI more to work with.

Avoid:

  • Looking away from the camera
  • Group photos or other people in frame
  • Sunglasses or eyewear that obscures your eyes
  • Silly or exaggerated expressions
  • Blurry or low-resolution photos

Good to know

  • More photos give the AI more to work with and generally improve results. You can upload up to 3 face photos plus an optional full-body photo.
  • The AI carries over details from your photos — including hair color, eye color, and facial features — into the generated headshots. Accuracy improves when your photos are high-quality.
  • For file formats, size limits, and how automatic validation works, see Photo Standards.
