Headshot Quality

What affects the quality of your AI headshots and how to get the best results

Headshot Quality

The quality of your AI headshots depends heavily on what you give the model to work with. HeadshotPro's AI does not change your hairstyle, expression, or makeup — it renders you in new environments. That means your input photo is the single biggest quality lever you control.

How it works

HeadshotPro generates photos from your uploaded selfies. The AI maps your facial features directly to the selected backdrop and outfit style. Quality depends on your input photos — the better your selfies, the better your headshots. Uploading up to 3 photos gives the AI more to work with and generally produces better results.

What the AI content moderation system filters

Generated photos pass through an automated content moderation check. Photos flagged as unprofessional are automatically hidden from your gallery. If more than 30% of your generated photos are filtered, HeadshotPro displays a warning banner and recommends contacting support for a free reshoot.

Good to know

Input photo requirements

These are the most important factors for quality:

  • Look directly at the camera. Looking away produces off-axis results where the headshot rendering looks unnatural.
  • Fill the frame with your face. Too small means the AI has insufficient facial detail to work with. Too close (cropped) loses framing context.
  • Keep a natural, relaxed expression. Exaggerated or silly expressions carry through to the output.
  • Use good lighting. Facing a window provides even, flattering light. Strong backlights create silhouettes; harsh shadows obscure facial features.
  • Use a simple background. A plain wall works well. Cluttered backgrounds confuse the model's segmentation.
  • No sunglasses, hats, or face coverings. These obscure the features the AI needs to generate a convincing headshot.
  • Include only yourself. Other people in the frame confuse the face detection step.
  • Use a sharp, well-lit photo. Blurry or underexposed photos produce blurry or inaccurate headshots.
  • Upload up to 3 photos. More photos from different angles give the AI more to work with and generally improve results.

Upscaling

If a photo looks good but lacks sharpness at full size, you can upscale it from the photo card's actions menu. Upscaling costs 1 photo credit per photo and takes a few minutes. The photo shows a spinner while processing and returns at higher resolution.

Content moderation filtering

Content moderation runs automatically. Certain generated poses or cropping artifacts occasionally trigger the filter even on professional-style outputs. If this happens at a high rate (over 30% of your set), contact support via the banner that appears on your results page — you are eligible for a free reshoot.

Backdrop and outfit choices affect output quality

Certain style combinations produce more realistic results than others for a given face. If your initial keepers look off in one particular style, generating new combinations with different backdrops or outfits often yields better results. This is especially true for styles with complex lighting environments (dramatic shadows, very dark backgrounds).
